Canada Music Week\u00ae<\/a> <\/strong>was initiated in 1960 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers\u2019 Associations (CFMTA). Canada Music Week\u00ae is celebrated during the third week of November, which includes November 22, the day honouring St. Cecilia, patron Saint of Music.<\/p>\n

The aims of Canada Music Week\u00ae are to bring to the attention of the public, through various means, the importance of Canadian music; to support composers and performers of Canadian music; to introduce contemporary music to young Canadians and stimulate a keener appreciation and understanding of this music; and to encourage music educators to widen their knowledge and experience of Canadian works.<\/p>\n

Canada Music Week\u00ae is dedicated to music in its fullest sense, but since 1967 particular focus has been on the Canadian cultural content. Thousands of Canadians experience Canada Music Week\u00ae festivities each year in their communities. The CFMTA was formed in 1935 and is a national association of qualified private music instructors. Our purpose is to promote and maintain high standards of teaching among our members and to foster music excellence in our students.<\/p>\n

The CFMTA offers its members national conventions, high quality workshops, performance opportunities for students, scholarships for students, a comprehensive journal published three times a year, and contact with other arts organizations across Canada. Our programs include biennial national competitions as well as the Young Artist Series, an annual performing tour that serves to further the careers of aspiring young musicians.<\/p>\n
